PARO to soothe weary journalists at CES 2011There is nothing quite like the therapeutic feeling of touch for people, and research has shown that babies who get stroked and massaged (especially preemies) tend to grow up healthier and happier, and the same applies to us adults. CES can be a particularly draining affair, where you walk for thousands of square feet on the showfloor, fueled by adrenaline (and some delicious muffins if you’re at the early morning press release session) as well as the passion to dig the latest and best news to your readers. If you’re feeling particularly low at CES, you’ll be pleased to know that the Robotics Tech Zone there will feature PARO the Therapeutic Robot baby seal. Already having appeared in nursing homes, this robot will encroach on the territory of pet therapy, and people who have had experienced it have nothing but good feedback – which is a good thing. We hope to give PARO a hug then in a fortnight’s time.
