Tamron Introduces Smallest 15X DSLR Zoom Lens

Tamron has announced what it calls the world’s smallest and lightest 15X zoom lens for DSLR cameras. The after-market camera equipment maker is using a piezoelectric internal focus motor to achieve this feat along with Vibration Compensation for image stabilization. The 15X zoom lens features a 62 mm filter diameter and an ultrasonic motor system for SLR lenses. According to the company, the wide zoom range “18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) DSLR ultra-high-power zoom lens for Canon and Nikon mounts will be released in Japan on December 20, 2010.” A Sony compatible lens mount will be available at a later date. The lens weighs in at just 450 grams.
