Zynga Expands Social Mobile Gaming with Newtoy Acquisition

Zynga has announced that it has acquired Newtoy to expand its efforts on gaming on the mobile platform. The maker of popular FarmVille game did not disclose the terms of the deal, but says that the Texas-based Newtoy office will be called Zynga with Friends Studio. Unlike Zynga, which generates revenues on gameplay by selling virtual goods, Newtoy’s model is based on paid and ad-supported games. The company has a number of successful games, including “Words with Friends” and “Chess with Friends.”
