When it comes to hardware, making sure they have a definite upgrade path down the road is definitely something that manufacturers should learn to look into. The Archos 9 and Archos 7 tablets are on the right path, with the former now coming with an SSD while the latter will sport an 800MHz processor and Android 2.1 Eclair as the operating system of choice, not to mention 8GB of flash memory. This is a 200MHz bump in terms of processor speed, and at least you don’t have to hobble along with Android 1.5 any more, although we do wonder why Android 2.2 isn’t thrown into the mix to make sure it is on par with other tablets in the market. We do keep our fingers crossed that Archos will introduce more software updates as well to keep them fresh in the market.
