BlackBerry Internet Services banned in Egypt

In the latest move by the Egyptian government, they’ve decided to block yet another form of communication to the outside world – BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS). After blocking Twitter yesterday, Egyptian officials probably felt that it wasn’t enough and prevented everyone in Egypt from accessing Facebook, YouTube, Google and BIS. Fortunately Facebook, YouTube and Google have been unblocked, but Twitter and BIS remains unreachable. No official statements have been made by the government, but you can imagine the effect in productivity it must have caused to people who weren’t involved in the protests and just wanted to get on with their lives. Let’s hope this doesn’t last long and life returns to normal over there. Can you imagine having internet but not being able to access any of the aforementioned services?
