BlackBerry PlayBook to have equal or greater battery life to the iPad While there were previously negative rumors about RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook’s battery life, the company’s senior business marketing VP has now promised that the PlayBook will offer “equal or greater” battery life when compared to Apple’s iPad, despite using a smaller cell size. The iPad’s 10-hour battery life is definitely one of its stronger points and if the PlayBook is able to match or even better that, it will definitely have a good tagline to market itself. Considering that the March launch for the tablet is just around the corner, hopefully RIM has ironed out all the kinks from this tablet and we’ll be able to see a serious contender to the iPad appear.

iPad: the iPad is Apple's tablet computer. While not "invented" by Apple (the newton was arguably a PDA), the iPad has re-ignited the tablet format as it appeared at the right time, with the right hardware and apps. the first iPad was launched on April 2010. RIM: RIM is the acronym for Research In Motion, the Canadian company behind the BlackBerry brand. RIM was founded in the mid 90s by Mike Lazaridis and with Jim Balsillie and went IPO (Initial Public Offering) in 1998. Its claim to fame was to make mobile email really effective and enterprises quickly adopted its devices and associated software and services which were highly lucrative. With the rise of iOS and Android devices, the BlackBerry franchise bumped into trouble and its decline prompted RIM to take a radical step by overhauling its BlackBerry operating system (OS) completely with QNX. The first version of the QNX BlackBerry OS is BlackBerry 10 or BB10.
