[CES 2011] Yeah, you read that right – the Blue Link telematics platform from Hyundai is definitely a new idea that might just change the way we drive our cars, but it might make driving much more enjoyable as well. Strangely enough, we do think it might end up like some sort of video game (since it looks like that in the video), and that might just cause some of the more immature drivers to treat pedestrians as such. This new telematics platform is exclusive to Hyundai models at the moment, offering over 30 unique connectivity features on future models.
It will play nice with your smartphone (iOS or Android platforms, it doesn’t matter), where the Blue Link app will allow you to have full control of the entire Blue Link interface. This means you need not upgrade your car as often as your smartphone, which is a good thing for your bank account. Imagine driving through town while having a glowing blue force field surround a pedestrian to alert you to his presence, or a glowing red car if you end up too close for comfort right behind. A video of the Blue Link system is available after the jump, as well as additional information.
Imagine having automatic crash notification and assistance with this system – the moment a crash happens with a deployed airbag, a signal containing your location and information will be sent to a response center where someone there will try to contact you and provide you with contact information of emergency services.
There will also be various safeguards built into the system such as letting you know via SMS whenever your vehicle goes beyond a prescribed region, or a speed alert through text if the car is going way faster than it should. We loved the turn-by-turn navigation service as well that makes me want to get behind the wheel more often, never mind if I have to go through long snakes of traffic jams.
Blue Link will be available in three years’ time, and Hyundai might just license this platform to other vehicle manufacturers – which would be totally cool. Enjoy the video below!RELATED
