There’s no doubt that solar energy will play a major part in the future. Now researchers out there have come up with a fancy microchip that can be self-powered, thanks to a built-in solar panel. The microchip is used as the base and the solar panels are grafted onto the chip in layers to build the finished product. In order to avoid damaging the chip, the researcher used CIGS or amorphous silicon for the solar panels. According to the research team, these chips can be self-powered as long as they consume less than 1 milliwatt of power, allowing them to work without a power source even indoors.
