We haven’t heard too much of the PSP 2 recently, especially since the Xperia Play/PlayStation Phone has been making waves. Despite that, word is now going around that Sony might be gearing up to unveil the device as a Tokyo press event has been scheduled for the 27th of January, supposedly an event where the device will be announced. It was also stated that publishers were told late last year of the plans and some of Sony’s biggest partners are already working on titles for the device.

Rumors claim that that the PSP 2 will feature a 4-core Cell CPU, possible 3G connectivity, a touchscreen display, the traditional PlayStation buttons along with front- and rear-facing cameras. Of course, there isn’t any confirmation on such specifications just yet, so you might want to take it with a pinch of salt.
