CNN has reported that Apple will be increasing the quality of their music files purchased from iTunes in the near future. According to a recently published article, the owners of the largest most successful digital music store has plans to upgrade their audio files from the current 16-bit format to a 24-bit high-fidelity format – the quality that studio recordings and masters are usually saved in before they get compressed down to 16-bit for distribution on CDs. But because their current players (iPod and iPhone) don’t support 24-bit audio output (they can play such files, but the files are reduced in quality when output), a refresh of their portable music players is in order.
