Dovado is well known for supplying mobile broadband routers, and have just announced today that they will be upgrading their product portfolio to support 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) USB modems. The Huawei E398 that is already on offer by LTE operators in Europe is the first of them, and hopefully the proliferation of such peripherals will let mobile operators effectively compete with fixed providers by offering a broadband connection that is capable of delivering speeds significantly above those of most consumer DSL connections. Of course, with the added advantage of extremely low latency, this is perfect for online gaming and video conferencing. Currently undergoing trial by multinational mobile operators, immediate mass deployment will occur upon approval, and hardware specifications include four Ethernet LAN ports, a WAN port for DSL fail-over and 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity.
