A standard pair of glasses is just that, right? Wrong! Not when emPower has anything to say about it, adding a pair of glasses to the ever growing list of items that need to be juiced up at the end of the day before they can face another gruelling day elsewhere. The emPower glasses come with tiny batteries inside, powering microchips and assorted electronics that are capable of turning reading power on as and when required. The new electronic spectacles will want to phase out bifocals that are extremely popular with the ageing population, where it will use liquid crystals to solve the problem associated with the lower part of the lens in a pair of bifocals. The crystals are able to change how the lenses refract or bend light, similar to how changing levels of thickness perform in traditional glasses. Manufactured by PixelOptics, this is the first of the kind in the market, although the starting price between $1,000 to $1,200 will most probably throw most people off the scent, never mind if it comes with the frames, lenses, coatings and charger.
