Home > CellPhones > Motorola says no to Android updates for quartet of smartphones

Apart from the Motorola Cliq XT that will remain stuck on the Cupcake version of Android, Motorola has just announced that they also will not offer any Android OS upgrades to another three handsets – the Motorola i1, Motorola Flipout and Charm devices. This means you can kiss Android 2.2 Froyo goodbye, so let us not rub even more salt into the wound by going on and on about Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Both the Flipout and Charm will remain on Android 2.1, while the Cliq XT and i1 will be stuck on Android 1.5. Guess both Flipout and Charm owners will have to resort to third party solutions if they want to copy and install files onto the memory card directly. Apparently, the lack of the Froyo update could be due to the relatively slower hardware used in all four phones, so Motorola does not want to take the chance and have people compain about its lack of speed after installation.
