Renesas Mobile

Renasas Mobile has just announced that they’ve been awarded the first DivX Plus HD certificate for their SH73704 System-on-Chip (SoC). The processor is capable of playing full 1080p HD videos in multiple formats including the ever popular ripped video format – MKV. Touting video processing at full HD (1920 x 1080), noise reduction and audio processing (5.1-channel/2-channel) and low power consumption, it certainly looks like a very attractive chip. Especially since smartphones becoming the new form of entertainment on the go, playback of any DivX video without conversion is going to be a hot selling feature of the SoC. But in this Qualcomm/NVIDIA dominated scene, it’s going to be interesting to see which manufacturers will be using the SH73704 SoC in their devices.
