While Samsung and Apple are competitors on the smartphone and tablet market, Apple is also one of the company’s largest customers. Despite earlier reports that the iPad 2 is already in production with the same display as the original iPad, reports are going around that Samsung’s subsidiary, Samsung Mobile Display would be providing the displays for the iPad 2. Apple is said to be interested in Samsung’s Super PLS LCD that was unveiled back in December. Super PLS LCD displays are touted as being superior to the IPS panels that Apple currently uses as it’s cheaper to produce and improves viewing angles considerably, is 10 percent brighter and also supports display resolutions up to WXGA (1,280 x 768).
