Sometimes, things in life are so simple that we miss it – and so are solutions to some problems that have plagued us for many a time. Take for example this solar-wind bridge concept that relies on the fact that bridges and wind turbines tend to be the perfect match, as bridges are pretty tall in their own right with higher wind speeds, while being exposed to the sun due to the huge amount of space it has to span across. Three Italian designers, Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino and Luisa Saracino, came up with this bridge design that is future-proof so to speak, boasting embedded solar panels in the road surface that intends to deliver 11.2 million kWh per year to your power grids, while the wind turbines themselves are able to deliver 36 million kWh per year, which results in enough juice to power 15,000 homes. We do wait with bated breath as to when such inventions will be made reality.
