The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play isn’t exactly the best-kept secret in the world, and we have long been clamoring for something official to roll out from the cell phone manufacturer. Nice to know that they have finally come up with an announcement, with the Xperia Play being unveiled officially at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2011.

Having experienced a fair number of leaks already to date, at least Sony Ericsson has taken up the corporate responsibility to have word come out from the horse’s mouth, confirming of its official announcement. We do know that the Xperia Play will come with the Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, a 4-inch touchscreen display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 205 GPU, 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera and a slide-out gamepad. Well, time to start saving up if you want to grab hold of this when it is available!
