[MWC 2011] You might have heard of Synaptics before, the company that focuses on advancing the science of haptics and touch detection. Now the company has come up with a method to integrate the touch controller with the display driver. What this means is that users should experience improved sensitivity, even when using something that is not conductive like a glove or stylus. The company demonstrated a scenario where a person wearing gloves could still interact with the display and it could also detect your input with 10 business cards stacked on the display. It isn’t clear when this technology will be used in the devices just yet, since it would depend on display manufacturers to adopt the technology, but if it does a good job of reducing the latency in touchscreen displays, hopefully we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.
