Certain Vodafone users in the UK might have experienced some disruption in their phone service after a break-in occured at the exchange center in Basingstoke. It seemed that several hundred thousand customers actually lost voice, text and internet access, as thieves hit the facility in the wee hours of Monday morning, carting away computer equipment and network hardware. Most of the affected users were in the M4 corridor area, to the west of London. Vodafone has issued a statement on the situation, saying, “We are working quickly to restore these and will be back to normal as soon as we can.” Hopefully it will be up and running soonest possible, and according to Vodafone, there has been no impact on the security of customers’ private information – let us keep our fingers crossed and wish that they are correct on that.
