At the AEA International Convention & Trade Show, Aircell actually unveiled their latest pride and joy, the Aircell smartphone. This is no ordinary handset, as by virtue of being a next-generation cabin phone, it will specially target business aircraft. Boasting intuitive, menu-driven features, the Aircell Smartphone will enable one to place as well as receive voice calls aboard business aircraft similar to how they do on cell phones while their feet are firmly planted on the ground. Powered by the Android operating system, first shipments of these are tipped for a late 2011 release. Among the features include a generous 3.8″ color touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free use, a special design for interchangeable wireless or wired operation, an integrated audio jack and best of all is, it will function as a drop-in replacement for current Aircell Axxess flush-mount handsets. Business class seats ought to see these installed in the near future, we would presume. [Press Release]
