RIM has officially announced the pre-order details for its highly anticipated QNX tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook. According to them, the tablet will hit the shelves in all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US and Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada on April 19. Starting today after 8am EDT, the tablet will be up for pre-order in the US and in Canada as well. RIM will be selling the WiFi-only version of the tablet first at 16GB ($499), 32GB ($599), or 64GB ($699). This pricing puts it at the same price point as the Apple iPad 2 – something that Android tablets have been failing to match when pitted against the iPad 2, and it could be one of the reasons that the PlayBook sells well. RIM also mentioned that they want to make the PlayBook available in over 20,000 retail outlets in the US and Canada. Low price and wide availability – sounds like a recipe for success to me. The PlayBook has missed its Q1 release, but at least we now have a definite date to look forward to. Will anyone be pre-ordering this device today?
