When it comes to figures and numbers, both China and India offer some pretty mind boggling scenarios. Take for example China Unicom – while they are by no means the largest mobile operator in China compared to the far massive China Mobile with more than half a billion users, China Unicom in essence is still a behemoth compared to Verizon Wireless where the number of subscribers are concerned – we’re looking at around 170 million compared to Verizon’s 100 million. China Unicom is now working on the Wophone which is touted to hit the market pretty soon, although there is no definite timeframe given just yet. It is also interesting to note that major players such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Huawei, ZTE and TCL will be supporting the new operating system which will be Linux based, and it remains to be seen just how big China Unicom can grow from there. Still, it doesn’t seem as though the Wophone will spill out of the Chinese market anytime soon.
