Who said robots had to be lean, mean, fearsome machines? Some scientists from Taiwan’s National Chiao-Tung University have created a robot seal that spends its time playing basketball and has a mean shooting accuracy of 99%. Granted, it’s not a full sized seal, neither is it a full sized basketball hoop and ball, but doesn’t a smaller target make things harder? It may not be ready to join the NBA, but if this starts a trend of hoop-shooting seals, we could see a robot seal league in the future. Maybe not.
