Sony Ericsson has gone against the grain with their latest announcement, which will see the smartphone maker offering advance developers the opportunity to unlock the boot loader in a secure and legal way later this spring, although this isn’t a uniform privilege since it will be possible only for selected phone releases. We do know that a quartet of the Xperia line will be covered, and they are the Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia pro and Xperia PLAY, although you will need to make sure that your handset isn’t SIM-locked upon purchase in the first place, with the area where you live being another major factor to boot. Of course, with all the tinkering that is going on, your warranty might be voided should you do more than you should with the Xperia’s software. As always, proceed with caution, but this might just pave the way to more interesting apps for the Xperia line down the road.
