The first figures are in for the Nintendo 3DS…for the UK region and it’s a respectable amount of handhelds sold. Nintendo’s official numbers peg 113,000 3DS consoles were sold in the UK during the launch weekend, beating out the 105,000 Wii consoles that were sold and the 87,000 DS units that those systems respectively sold during launch. However, it’s not all party and cake, despite putting in some good numbers, the glasses-free 3D game machine could not topple the 187,000 PlayStation Portables that Sony sold back in 2005. As a whole in Europe, 303,000 3DS consoles were sold – still a little short from the 400,000 that sold out almost instantly in Japan, but not terrible by any means. Here in the US, the 3DS launched to pretty hype, so we’ll have to wait till Nintendo of America releases the figures on that. Nintendo UK might be happy right now, but we’ll wait until all those people with headaches settle down before deciding if the 3DS can print money like its predecessor could.
