KinEmoteThe people over at Lateral Flux – creators of the groundbreaking KinEmote software that allows Windows users to use the Kinect with popular Windows programs are back with an exciting update to KinEmote. They’ve now made the Kinect much more accurate, with the ability to detect the shape of the user’s hand.

This means that users will no longer have to wave their arms around like a madman just to move their cursor on the screen. Clicking and dragging becomes a simple gesture of just opening and closing your fist. You can actually sit down in front of your computer to use the device like a normal person would, albeit the gestures are definitely going to be more tiresome to use when compared to a mouse. But for what it’s worth, Lateral Flux has started something that can probably be developed and grown into a more refined system in the future.

KinEmote is available as a free beta download now. All you need is a Kinect and a Windows 7 PC to connect it to. Watch a video demonstration, or head over to the KinEmote website for more details or to download the software.
