Victim's Toronto apartmentThe police in Toronto have arrested a 29-year-old man who has allegedly murdered a 23-year-old exchange student while her friend in China watched over webcam. The friend in China was talking to her over webcam, when she stopped for awhile to answer the door early in the morning. The witness claimed he saw, through the webcam chat, the girl open the door for a man who was seemingly asking to use her phone. A struggle ensued, before the man turned off the girl’s webcam. The girl’s body was discovered 10 hours later, naked from the waist down and her laptop missing from the scene.

Authorities didn’t explain how they managed to connect the man with the death of the student, but he is suspected to appear in court Thursday morning for a hearing. This isn’t the first time that webcams have been used to help solve a crime, but I guess it shows that webcams can be more useful than we think.
