If you’re a video game buff, then chances are you would have gone through a whole lot of game consoles in the past, and currently probably have at least a Wii and/or an Xbox 360 and PS3 in your living room. Of course, when you head outdoors, there is always the iPhone, Nintendo 3DS and Sony PSP to keep you company, while you monitor your bank account to make sure that there is enough dough for when the Sony NGP comes out, but that’s another can of worms altogether.
For those who have a soft spot for Neo Geo and its nuances, you might find many a seller of a “consolized” Neo Geo MVS arcade system, but how many of those will be as impressive as this kit from Analogue Interactive? It is said to be crafted from 100% real walnut, where the console will sport a seamless design – so that means no nails or screws that look unsightly. Not only that, it offers nearly all the audio and video outputs that you would require where a Neo Geo is concerned, with working dust flaps to boot.
Of course, all that quality would mean forking out extra dough – and by that, we’re looking at a rather premium $649, which in reality, is the same sticker price that SNK’s original Neo Geo AES home console went for in its heyday, and even that was made out of plastic. Initial units are tipped to ship in early May.
