OmniVision has 12.6 megapixel Mobile Sensor with 1080p/60 HD Video and Electronic Image StabilizationOmniVision has just announced that they will be rolling out a 12.6-megapixel Mobile Sensor with 1080p/60 HD Video and Electronic Image Stabilization to handset manufacturers in due time. Also known as the OV12825, this new sensor will be able to let you capture high resolution images as well as full HD video at 60fps without missing a beat. Of course, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) does compensate for those with shaky hands, and handsets that incorporate this will probably be top drawer models, no doubt about it. Currently, the OV12825 is said to come with an active array of 4,224 x 3,000 OmniBSI pixels that operate at 15 FPS in full resolution. Not only that, it will arrive with industry-standard connectivity including 4-lane MIPI, LVDS and DVP interfaces. Right now out for sampling, expect volume production of this to commence in Q2 2011 – which isn’t too far away, and you can be sure that high end smartphone models will have an even higher resolution before the year is over.
