3D is all the rage these days it seems, with Toshiba pulling off an April Fool’s prank with their 3D monocle followed by P770 and P775 laptops that come with a 3D webcam to keep the person on the other end entertained in a new way. Well, we now have word that Toshiba will be introducing glass-free 3D notebooks sometime in the second half of this year, drawing on their in-house developed integral imaging technology in order to produce such computing machines for the masses. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Toshiba will be first off the blocks in this aspect as other notebook vendors such as Acer, Asustek Computer, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell, Lenovo and Micro-Star International (MSI) have already rolled out 3D notebooks of their own, although those require the use of shutter glasses or polarized glass solutions. Currently, 3D notebooks remain more of a gimmick than anything else – who would want to buy these for offices just to see bar graphs jump out at you while you have bigger things to worry about like balancing the company accounts?
