Ubuntu 11.04 is set to arrive as the latest operating system version from April 28th onwards, where the public is able to download it for free. Just what does Ubuntu 11.04 bring to the table in terms of new ideas? Well, for starters, we are looking at Unity, Ubuntu’s latest interface which is touted to be simpler, a whole lot easier to use (that’s good news for newbies who want to make a move over to the Ubuntu direction), and more beautiful compared to its predecessors.

It has taken the better part of the last two years in terms of design and engineering by by Canonical and the Ubuntu community to roll out everything found inside Ubuntu 11.04. No idea on how much of a negative impact it will make on Windows’ sales where operating systems are concerned, but at the very least it offers a decent operating system alternative which is free and not gimped.

Taking advantage of modern graphics to provide a visually rich interface for the PC, Ubuntu 11.04 is inspired by smartphone and tablet design thinking. Older PCs will see Ubuntu determining if their graphics card supports Unity automatically, and will deliver instead a “classic” experience when the machine is not beefy enough. Of course, even if Unity is supported, you can always opt for the classic desktop experience for familiarity or consistency. How many Ubuntu users read us?
