A Dutch designer, Jeroen Verhoeven recently came up with a beautifully designed chandelier – made up of 500 butterflies, and each one cut from photovoltaic cells. Called the Virtue of Blue, the chandelier is a self-sustaining device, with the solar cell butterflies used to charge the giant light bulb that’s placed in the center of the design. While a chandelier like this is certainly something you’re not going to see every day, it is not very practical at all. But it does show that it is possible to conserve energy with class and style.
