We did cover news that HTC might just review the locked bootloader policy after HTC fans who are involved in the homebrew scene used the power of social networking to get the attention of the top brass at HTC to consider their request. Not too long after that, such pressure has actually caused something to happen – with HTC CEO Peter Chou using HTC’s Facebook page to decree that all future devices from the hardware manufacturer will be open, no two ways about it. Below is what the Facebook post had to say concerning the situation.
”There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
One more thing Peter – will the policy be retroactive? If so, that would really make the day of many folks, especially the ThunderBolt and Incredible 2 owners. We wonder what does Motorola has to say about the whole situation.
