It seems that rumors of the next generation iPad (the iPad 3 for now, unless Apple drops an unwitting clue someway or another) are untrue, and Apple’s iPad 3 will not be supporting an OLED display as initially speculated – as a new report touts that Samsung is unable to produce enough of such 9.7″ displays in order to meet the massive demand that Apple’s products tend to generate.
According to OLED-display.net, the reason behind that is because Samsung will continue to concentrate on small and medium-sized OLED panels using their latest production lines, with manufacturing ready to kick off within the next fortnight.
At press time, Samsung’s total capacity is tipped to hit eight million 4″ OLED panels monthly before the year is over, but that comes at the expense of delayed investments for larger screen sizes of 6″ to 9″ until 2012 rolls about.
Samsung also has to look after its own interests with its 7″ Galaxy Tab device that is tipped to arrive in 2012, sporting an OLED display to boot. What do you think – should Apple look elsewhere to fulfill their OLED display needs?
