Sony Ericsson has a couple of new smartphones of dwarfian proportions – hence the monikers of Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro. The latest Xperia Mini will be powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, sporting a 3″ multitouch, scratch-resistant display (hooray!), where it will also be accompanied by Sony’s proprietary Bravia Engine with Reality Display. That is not the same as a small Sony TV in your palm, but rather, it is a fancy name so that you are able to feel good knowing just what you have in your pocket is better than a nameless feature found in rival handsets. Apart from that, there is a 1GHz processor within, not to mention being able to access the Android Market and the ability to customize your home screen with custom shortcuts that are available in the four corners of the screen. More on it in the extended post.

Battery life has been stated to come with a 30% improvement thanks to a larger sell. Sony Ericsson is also proud to tout the Xperia Mini as being the smallest smartphone in the world that is capable of recording video in 720p HD resolution. You can choose from a quartet of different colors when August rolls around.

As for the the new Xperia Mini Pro, it also won’t be lacking in the processor department with 1GHz of goodness, where you will also be able to enjoy a similar generous battery life. One thing that is different though would be the sliding QWERTY keyboard which was one of the strongest points of the original X10 Mini Pro. No idea on pricing, but the Xperia Mini Pro will hit the market in the third quarter of the year.
