Whispers are going around that Microsoft will roll out at least four different versions of Windows 8 for devices with ARM processors (read all about our take on the ARM bubble), but despite that fact, you need not fret as you will not be running older Windows apps on any them. Renee James, Intel’s senior vice president and general manager of Software and Services Group, has also given affirmation that Windows verisons that run on ARM devices will be focused on tablets and other mobile devices.
Will version fatigue be a problem down the road? Some might think that Microsoft could have rolled out way too many versions of Windows 7 or Vista, so will history repeat itself with Windows 8? Only time will tell, since it is still too early in the future to know exactly on how Microsoft will package Windows 8. After all, Microsoft did go through some length of trouble to purchase six different trademarks for its OS where Windows 7 and Vista are concerned, so the same might be applied to Windows 8 as well.
What do you think of it? Do you want more, or less versions of Windows 8?
