Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently had a chance to spend time with the world’s largest high definition video board at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, as he managed to have a relaxed time of experiencing virtual laps around the legendary 1.5-mile track via an iRacing simulation. Apparently, Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, had sent an invitation to Earnhardt Jr., who is an avid video gamer, in order to display his skills on the giant HD video board.

Since the largest HD video board in the world is about to debut, it made perfect sense for Smith and Earnhardt Jr. to rely on an oversized remote in order to power on the 200 foot-wide, 80 foot-tall HD video board courtesy of Panasonic, letting one watch a highlight video of past racing action at Charlotte Motor Speedway just to up the impressive factor. 

According to Smith, “This giant Panasonic HD video board will be a game changer for our fans on race day. It will give them a whole new way to experience a NASCAR event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”

The entire Panasonic HD video board project was no simple feat, requiring up to 57 workers each day who worked over 11,000 man hours, taking more than four months to construct. Tipping the scales at 332-and-a-half-ton, it comprises of 158 panels and will be illuminated by nine million LED lamps. Imagine the kind of power supply this puppy needs…
