The classic phrase, “you can’t have your cake and eat it, too”, rings true when it comes to computer displays. Want a bright and crisp display? Glossy is the way to go, although the downside would be it being subject to glare, and while matte screens are glare-free, they tend to produce washed-out displays most of the time. So far, it has been one or the other, and which camp do you root for? Asus has stated their intent to support matte displays by phasing out glossy displays for their future Eee PC models.

We are talking about the upcoming Eee PC 1025C and 1025CE netbooks that will feature matte screens. Of course, the switch will not occur across the board for all current models, but chances are quite high that future models will sport matte displays across the board, resulting in better visibility even in bright environments.

You know what would be a win-win situation? Asus ought to offer consumers the option to purchase either a glossy or matte display – after all, it is their money, no? This might be a bit tricky when there are inventory issues to contend with, but if you keep your customers happy, they’re most likely to repeat orders and stay loyal to your brand down the road.
