It is said that developed countries tend to throw away a lot of food – while developing countries like India and Vietnam hardly see any form of food wastage, because the majority of people living and working there know how tough life can be, so every little grain of rice counts. Well, if you do not give second thoughts to just how much food you do not finish at the dining table, perhaps the BinCam might help you develop a clearer conscience. This unique trash can sports a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini that is located inside the lid – basically, whenever the lid is opened, the handset will proceed by snapping a photo of it and uploading it over to the BinCam Facebook app on your behalf. This will let you check out how you fare compared to the rest of the world, where you will be on the receiving end of virtual rewards for good recycling efforts, not to mention getting a free estimate of just how much money you have saved through saving your food.

A couple of brilliant students with a heart from Newcastle University helped create the project, and we would like to give them mad props for doing so.
