Boxee has clearly set its sights on the desktop platform this Monday, where the company has just announced that they will be rolling out a major update for the Mac, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows platforms with new versions of its media front-end application. The new version will offer a remodeled browser as well as content options, while the code will also be more closely in step with the dedicated box down the road. It seems as though there is the possibility of a new interface based on a screen cap, too.
This new release is tipped to be out later this fall according to Boxee, where the open-source code base will also be made more simple so that modifications can be performed easily. According to company founder Avner Ronen, the recent lack of attention to the desktop app is due to low resources as well as the fundamental shift in technology, but hopefully this fall’s major update, all of this will change for the better.
Let’s hope they did a great job with this.
