HTC has certainly done very well for itself over the years, especially by siding with Android (while releasing a token Windows Phone 7 device or two), creating plenty of successes along the way. Well, the Taiwan-based company is not going to rest on their laurels for sure, but will always be on the look out to create something slimmer and more sexy looking in the never ending quest for the perfect smartphone. This vision has led HTC to consider adopting of a new manufacturing technique known as Nano Molding Technology (NMT) which would enable it to build sturdy smartphones, helping cut down waste in the process.

NMT is owned by Chenming Mold Industrial, where it will attach plastic directly to metal without the need for additional adhesive. You will etch the metal first to provide a surface for the plastic to hold on to, where the liquid plastic is then deposited onto the exposed metal. Upon hardening, you end up with a strong bond between the materials without having to have aany interconnecting mechanics.

You might get an mm or two off current smartphones, as other items like the battery will still need a whole lot of work before they become slim yet functional.
