Remember the movie, “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”? That was an interesting aspect of a dysfunctional family with a scientist at the helm. Well, fast forward to today with all of its modern technology, and we still have yet to create a time travel machine, a contraption which can trap ghosts inside, or even a shrinking gun. Not a real one, anyways, where a shrinking gun is concerned, since a team of engineers at the Southeast University in Nanjing, China, managed to come up with a device that will make a real spoon look smaller than it is in the virtual space.

This is made possible through the control of how light bends around an object, hence this shrinking object looks smaller than it actually is. The illusion created is convincing enough to confuse viewers, as the real size of the object cannot be perceived in the first place.

This device will work at microwave frequencies, where it will confuse the radar or other electromagnetic detection equipment into making wrong decisions. No prizes for guessing that the military will call first dibs on such technology, and it would be interesting to see how it is applied on the battlefield.
