Solar Sinter 3D printer builds beautiful objects in the desert

If you’re stuck in the middle of the desert – what do you have an abundance of? If you answered “time” you’re right. If you answered “sand and sun” – you’re also right. What can you do with all that time, sand and sun? Well, if you’ve got a Solar Sinter 3D printer you can use that time to create some beautiful glass structures from sand around you.

Markus Kayser, built the Solar Sinter, a 3D printer that works extremely well in the middle of the desert. Using the power of the sun and raw materials around it (sand), it can create beautiful glass objects, with designs ranging from an intricate rock structure to a simple bowl. Kayser took the Solar Sinter out into the middle of the Sahara desert in Egypt and shot a video clip to demonstrate its abilities and it is nothing short of impressive. Check it out after the break:
