Africa does not only churn out diamonds for the world, they will soon offer tablets, too! We’re talking about an upcoming tablet from Congolese company VMK, where what you see above is actually the back of the actual device. No idea on why there was no full frontal shot – it would definitely have looked much better (and sexier, of course). It seems as though the tablet will be powered by Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread right out from the box, so you will have to wait for some time before there is actually a Honeycomb (Android 3.0) update for it.
Right now, VMK is rather worried about having its design copied by others, as the company is working on registering its fair share of trademarks before releasing the Android 2.3.3-powered tablet later this September in its native Africa. Needless to say, VMK too, is looking for additional funding since rolling out a piece of consumer electronics there is challenging to say the least.
Since said tablet will target developing nations, it is a relatively safe bet that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg, but then again, that would mean having specifications to match – which we would say are mid-range at best.
