Avatar Kinect

The long-awaited Avatar Kinect that was introduced at CES earlier this year is now available to all Xbox LIVE users starting today. In case you forgot about it or you haven’t been paying much attention, Avatar Kinect is a new Xbox LIVE Gadget that brings your avatar to life. Avatar Kinect uses the Kinect to capture your facial expressions and voice so when you smile, nod or speak, your avatar follows suit.

Users can place their avatars in 24 virtual stages to chill out, have fun and basically chit chat about anything under the sun. Conversations can even be recorded, with the Kinect sensor following your “performance”, zooming and panning as though you were a star of a TV show. Videos can also be shared with friends by uploading the videos to KinectShare.com which can then be downloaded and uploaded onto social sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more.

Avatar Kinect is available free to all Xbox LIVE Gold members but as part of an introductory offer, Microsoft has made Avatar Kinect free to all Xbox LIVE users (Free and Gold) to enjoy from July 25 – September 8. In addition to the free Avatar Kinect promo, the Xbox Facebook page is also hosting a special Avatar Kinect contest that features an online comedy festival with some of Hollywood’s funniest stand-up comedians (no names have been mentioned yet though). Head over to Kinect Fun Labs now to get Avatar Kinect on your Xbox.
