We’re not sure why anyone would need to bring a satellite with them while on the go, perhaps the military or a news reporter might, but if you find yourself requiring a satellite link up in the middle of the jungle, then perhaps you wished you brought along GATR’s inflatable satellite with you.

Granted there’s more to it than just the inflatable satellite itself as you would require other things such as rolling cases to store and transport, since besides the antenna, you also have to deal with mounting plates, blowers and other hardware to make the system functional.

The inflatable satellite is constructed of one layer of nylon mesh and another made from the same material used for sails, and when inflated it greatly resembles a beach ball or one of those exercise balls. The “ball” itself is actually constructed of two separate, hemispheric chambers that divide the sphere right along the center like the equator. By increasing the air pressure on one side of the sphere you can force the “dish”, which divides the sphere in half, into the necessary parabolic shape to form a satellite.

We’re not sure if you can actually pick it up off the shelves, although if you could, we’re guessing it will not come cheap. If you want to learn more about the satellite and watch the animation video of it unfolding, just head on down to GATR’s website.
