We all know that the Motorola DROID 3 will be rolling out over at Verizon Wireless this Thursday, but how about the GSM crowd who might be hankering after a similar handset? Well, word has it that what seems to be a GSM-friendly model of said smartphone is already in the pipeline since something like that has hit the FCC, where it will feature solid support for GSM 850 and 1900 bands, in addition to WCDMA bands II and V that are all used by AT&T Stateside. If that isn’t a crystal clear indication just yet, then I am not sure what is.

Too bad there were no more additional incriminating details of the smartphone in the FCC filing, as it was only called by its FCC ID, IHDT56MF2. Initial test reports have pointed towards 16GB of internal storage and a 960 × 540 resolution qHD display – which are similar to those found on the DROID 3 from Verizon Wireless.

Since there are enough reasonable “excuses” to say that this is a GSM version of the DROID 3, we do hope that AT&T will no longer hide in the closet but come out and release an official statement, either that or it could be a non-US version of the device. Bummer.
