If you ever needed proof or an indication that electric vehicles are starting to catch on, perhaps our post about electric charging points being built along the I-5 and U.S. 2 might be the proof you need, or perhaps Car2Go’s electric car sharing service might be another sign. If those aren’t enough, perhaps the installation of Blink EV charging stations that will be making their way to IKEA stores in the Western United States might be able to convince you.

If you live in Oregon, California, Washington and Arizona, a number of IKEA stores in those areas are among those currently being considered for the project, which will see at least two Blink EV charging stations installed at each of the chosen locations. The project is targeting to have everything in place by the end of 2012, although the first of the charging points could very well be up and running later this year. IKEA will be the one deciding which of their stores gets the charging points while ECOtality will be the one responsible for them. It seems that ECOtality has been pretty busy this week, with Car2Go and now IKEA.

Granted two Blink EV charging stations per store isn’t a lot, but then again the amount of EVs on the road isn’t that much either. However with the foundations for EVs being set in place, perhaps it will be able to convince car buyers to start considering EVs for their next purchase.
