TheCorpora has a spanking new robot for the masses, calling it Qbo, where it is manufactured in Taiwan. Qbo recently undergone a test run in robot interaction with its development team, and the results yielded were quirky in some way, including Qbo displaying a preference for taller people instead of the vertically challenged. Perhaps it boils down to the robot’s programming, as it was “told” to determine how closely it follows people based on how far away their face is to its cameras.

There are still kinks that need to be worked out, as the robot might end up losing track of people at times because of changing lighting conditions – something that has plagued computer vision for some time already. Guess this is not suitable to see action in discos or nightclubs due to the low light situations there.

TheCorpora is still working hard on Qbo to have it roll out sometime down the road. It might be the ideal electronic companion when it comes to studying human-robot interaction. What are some of the other uses you can think of?
