SoftEther from Japan has come up with a spanking new 3D motion-capture figure that will see action in creating computer graphics and animations in 3D. Known as Quma, this doll does resemble the human physique to a certain extent, featuring a set of joints at strategic places all over the body. These joints not only help you manipulate the figure to be in the right position, but they too come with sensors which can be moved about freely by the user. For example, if you lift up the left leg, the 3D figure on the computer will also follow suit – making you feel as though you were Captain Blackbeard who has Jack Sparrow in his pocket, literally. View a video of Quma in action after the jump.

To put it in a nutshell, the Quma is a mini 3D motion-capture device which will make life a whole lot easier for designers and engineers to develop 3D computer graphics, regardless of whether it is for video games, robot applications, or training and education simulations. All you need to do is ensure the Quma is plugged into a USB port and you’re good to go – no messy power cables to worry about here.

Quma is ready for production at the moment, although pricing and availability details have yet to be confirmed.
